Brian Walker

CO-FOUNDER

Professor Brian Walker, a co-founder of ProAxsis Ltd., has over 30 years of experience in the design and synthesis of “Protease-Tags” for the identification and validation of protease targets of biomedical and pharmaceutical importance. He is a highly experienced researcher with an extensive track record of seminal research publications in Protease Inhibitor Innovation and Development. He has trained over 70 PhD candidates, has served on major national and international funding bodies and has been responsible for initiating significant Technology Transfer Programs with leading International Pharma and Biotech companies. He is responsible for the continued development and expansion of the ProteaseTagTM portfolio for commercial use.

Brian is a graduate of Queen’s University Belfast (QUB), where he obtained a BSc in Chemistry followed by a PhD in Biochemistry, the latter being funded through the award of a prize Fellowship in Basic Clinical Sciences. After completing a postdoctoral position in the Friedrich Miescher Institute in Basel, he returned to Belfast to take up a Lectureship in Biochemistry. He was subsequently appointed to a Personal Chair in Biochemistry within the School of Biological Sciences, before being appointed to the McClay Chair in Biomedicinal Chemistry, in the School of Pharmacy at QUB, in September 1998.
