Lorraine Martin

Lorraine Martin is a Professor of Biomolecular Sciences, School of Pharmacy, Queen’s University Belfast (QUB) and a co-founder of ProAxsis Ltd. As an expert in protease biochemistry and biomarker assay development, Lorraine has played a pivotal role in the commercialisation of ProteaseTag™ technology across a range of platforms for use at point of care and as tools for both academic, pharmaceutical and clinical research.

As founding CEO, Lorraine won several awards for ProAxsis including the Northern Ireland Science Park (NISP) Connect overall 25K award in 2013 (now INVENT, Catalyst Inc.) and a Horizon 2020 SME Instrument Award (Sept 2014).  Lorraine was also shortlisted on several occasions as a finalist for the Women in Business NI Awards. In 2016 she was awarded the prestigious Queen’s University Vice-Chancellor’s Research Impact Prize in recognition of the success of her commercialization and impact activities. She continues to contribute to the strategic development of ProAxsis, is actively involved with Catalyst Inc. and QUB in support of local entrepreneurial activity and is engaged in a number of productive research collaborations with UK industry and global pharma.

Professor Martin holds a BSc and PhD in Biochemistry and a Masters of Medical Science in Clinical Laboratory Medicine from Queen’s University Belfast.
